From Embalming to Industrial Trades: Why Precision Matters

By Dean Elkins Jan 20, 2026 Service Standards

My background is a little different than your average guy with a hammer. Before I was doing heavy industrial construction and custom fabrication, I held a degree in funeral science and worked as a funeral director, embalmer, and crematorium operator.

At first glance, those two fields have absolutely nothing in common. But the reality is, they both require one critical trait: Flawless precision under immense pressure.

No Room for Error

When you are operating in a funeral home, you are dealing with people on the absolute worst day of their lives. There is zero room for mistakes, cutting corners, or doing a "good enough" job. The environment demands exactness, care, and total professionalism.

Later, when I transitioned into industrial construction—handling heavy electrical work, pipefitting, and hydraulic machinery—I brought that exact same mindset with me. In an industrial setting, if a pipe bursts or an electrical load is miscalculated, the entire factory shuts down, or worse, someone gets hurt.

How This Benefits Your Home

Today, as the owner of Dean's Handyman Service LLC, I apply that standard of care to every residential property I touch.

Hire a Professional You Can Trust
